Shaping the body with both addition and subtraction!
Shaping of the body or butt lift, can take many forms, and many ways. We have various non surgical forms-
and then there is liposculpture. Whereby the removal of unwanted fat is literally sucked out by fine cannulae. These are reducing procedures, with fat grafting, we can make use of this fat and augment… this is an additive procedure.
With body shaping and shaping of the buttocks, we alter curves and shapes to improve the more feminine form. For patients with significant weight loss, and loose tissue, there is a glutealplasty procedure to remove this excess skin.
Many ladies want a more perky, or projected buttock, and sometimes no amount of gym( squats, lunges, ad leg press) will help improve this curve.
We can taper the waist, and love handles, then transfer this fat to give a better outer curve of the buttock/thigh, and also improve the projection of the buttock.
This serves two purposes-
- improve waist to hip ratio, narrow waist, broaden hips.
- improve buttock curvature and flow on to the surrounding areas.
To specifically augment the buttock, gluteal silicone implants have been used for years, but since the last 10 years there has been great advances in safety and understanding of fat grafting, so that the latter is now the gold standard to buttock augmentation.
The procedure requires the patient to have adequate fat stores on the tummy, love handles, thighs, or arms to allow a reasonable amount of fat to be removed in our specialised closed sterile system.
If the patient is quite thin, or has limited fat stores, then we usually require a 6 week fat gain period, where the patient is placed on a high calorie low exercise plan, to gain atleast 5kg.
If there is little of no fat to to be removed then this is not an optimal situation, and becomes more an exercise in liposuction.
A healthy and fit adult with appropriate cosmetic desires.
The precise areas to reduce and remove fat is marked, then the areas where the buttocks need shaping, are marked. Photos are standardized and taken for assessment, planning, and recording.
The pre op planning is very important, as is the post op plan.
All these are taken care of by Dr Young and his team.
Pre op planning, and investigations are ordered.
Consent and surgery information is given to the patient atleast 2 weeks prior to surgery for the patient to fully understand the process, and possible positive and negative outcomes.
Usually surgery takes just under 4 hours, all under local anaesthetic with minimal bleeding, pain, or discomfort.
The areas for fat removal are gently treated and the fat is harvested safely, sterile, and prepared for grafting( implanting).
The safety of the patient is vital.
A body garment is placed on the patient at the end of the surgery, post care instructions and follow up planning is instituted.
Hence it all comes down to correct patient selection, planning, surgical technique, and safe and correct implantation of the fat.
