Liquid Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
The liquid rhinoplasty is a non-surgical form of rhinoplasty that involves the injection of liquids/gels known as fillers such as hyaluronic acid into a patient’s nose in order to alter and shape the nose without the need for invasive surgery such as the traditional rhinoplasty. The procedure fills the depressed areas on the nose, smoothing the appearance of bumps and lifting the angle of the tip. It has a strong focus on improving the overall look of the nose without significantly changing the size of the nose. It is an augmentation procedure meaning that it cannot be used to reduce the size of the patient’s nose, unlike the traditional rhinoplasty. However, it can in certain cases make the nose appear smaller by making it straighter and more defined. Often a liquid rhinoplasty is performed post-surgery of a traditional rhinoplasty in order to fix small areas without the need for undergoing additional traditional rhinoplasty procedures that are expensive and time consuming. Dr Young treats many Asiatic patients who tend to prefer a stronger profile, with a refined appearance.
Dr Young, has been involved with surgical rhinoplasties for years, and has been at the forefront of non surgical rhinoplasty for the last 10 years, performing over 200 per year. He is a master of altering the angles and curves to improve the balance of the nose with the face.
Please note he also will assess your profile, and adjust this if needed, usually the case. This is called Profiloplasty.
He has seen this number grow steadily, Asian noses, western noses, and also pre or post surgery( the Selfie effect?).
There are many benefits that result from a liquid rhinoplasty both in general and in comparison to a traditional rhinoplasty. The general benefits of a liquid rhinoplasty are
- Reshaped Nose
- Narrower nasal flare
- Better contour of the nose
- Enables the smoothing of bumps on the nose( especially post surgical rhinoplasty)
- Makes subtle, yet noticeable changes to the nose
- Increase in confidence
- Can be used post rhinoplasty to fix small healing errors that occurred in the traditional rhinoplasty
Benefits of the liquid rhinoplasty compared to the traditional rhinoplasty include
- Less downtime
- Bruising is rare
- Less painful
- Immediate results
These general benefits and benefits compared to the traditional rhinoplasty have seen a great rise in the popularity of the liquid rhinoplasty. However, it should be noted that there are some limitations of the liquid rhinoplasty compared to the traditional rhinoplasty. These limitations include
- Can’t make the nose smaller (but may make it visually narrower)
- Only lasts for 1-2 years (Depending on the patient and the filler used)
However, the simplicity and effectiveness of the liquid rhinoplasty means that you should consider undergoing a liquid rhinoplasty procedure before undergoing a traditional rhinoplasty as you may be able to get the results you desire in a much quicker and easier way.
Who is a candidate for Liquid Rhinoplasty?
There is a few reasons for which a person may be a candidate for a liquid rhinoplasty. The first reason is if a person is dissatisfied with their nose and they want a quick, non-invasive change to the nose. A liquid rhinoplasty means that this patient can get the results and change in their nose that they desire without having to worry too much about the procedure, the cost and having a long downtime after the procedure. Additionally, patients who want to change the shape of their nose should also consider a liquid rhinoplasty as this procedure is very effective at providing patients with this result. Typically, the only candidates who are dissatisfied with their nose and want to change it, that cannot undergo a liquid rhinoplasty are those who want to decrease the size of their nose as this can only be done through a traditional rhinoplasty. Other candidates for liquid rhinoplasty also includes patients who have undergone a traditional rhinoplasty and still want small changes in their nose without having to undergo another invasive procedure that is also very expensive. If you are unsure whether you are appropriate candidate for liquid rhinoplasty in Sydney, please contact us or come in for a consultation.
One of the main benefits of the liquid rhinoplasty, especially in comparison to the surgical rhinoplasty is the much less risks associated with this procedure. The only real downsides/risks of a liquid rhinoplasty are
- Temporary numbness of the nose after the procedure (usually only for about 30 minutes)
- Very slight discomfort during the procedure
- Possibility for small amounts of bruising and swelling
- vascular problems( hence this is not a procedure to be undertaken by non experienced doctors)
In comparison there are numerous risks in a surgical rhinoplasty including
- Anesthesia risks
- Poor wound healing or scarring leading to asymmetry
- Nasal septal perforation
- Difficulty breathing
- Need for additional procedures
This shows that the liquid rhinoplasty is the far safer option if you are looking to undergo a rhinoplasty procedure and can’t decide which one.
Procedure- a very advanced technique, and requires great expertise.
The procedure for the liquid rhinoplasty is very delicate and requires care, skill and vision. Dr Young will use numbing cream on the nose before the procedure, however, this is not always necessary as the procedure is relatively painless. The injectable filler is then injected into pre-determined areas of the nose, to maximize balance and symmetry, in addition to improved angles and geometry of the nose. In some cases the injectable filler has anaesthetic mixed into it, making the nose numb as the injection progresses. This numbness lasts for about an hour. After the injections occur, the procedure is finished. The procedure typically takes about 15-30 minutes depending on the patient and the areas being injected. After this you will enter the short, recovery period.
Due to this procedure being carefully and gently performed and non-invasive there is little to no-downtime after this procedure, with most patient being able to resume normal activities straight away or the next day. However, in order to maximize the success of the procedure and to minimize soreness, swelling and bruising. Over the first 24 hours after your procedure you should gently apply an ice pack to the nose as tolerated, to minimize the swelling. Also try to keep your head elevated for the first 24 hours, sleeping on a high pillow or two. Finally do not apply pressure or massage your nose for two weeks.
Additionally, you can immediately apply makeup carefully to your face in general and to cover up any small bruising. You can also get your nose wet immediately, such as through swimming and showering/bathing. It is also not recommended to wear glasses that press on the treated area for a week.
