- Flanks (love handles)
- Inner thighs
- Inner knees
- Upper arms
- Submental (Chin, gullet)
- Gynecomastia(male breast tissue)
Below we will discuss thigh liposuction, its benefits, what candidates are appropriate for this liposuction, the actual procedure, the risks and effects, the recovery time and care guidelines, the cost and some before and after pictures.
Thigh liposuction is a procedure in which fat is removed from both the inner and outer thighs, leading to slender and straighter legs. It is often performed in conjunction with knee liposuction in order to maximize the effectiveness of the procedure. Additionally, it helps reshape the leg into a way that suits your wants and needs. It is commonly performed on people with “Two Body Syndrome” which refers to the mismatch between the upper and lower half of the body.
The Benefits of Thigh Liposuction
Thigh liposuction is common due to the major benefits to your thighs that it provides. If combined with knee liposuction, the benefits are even greater, so if you are considering thigh liposuction consider getting knee liposuction alongside it. The main benefits of thigh liposuction are
- Helps solve “Two body syndrome”
- Slimmer, straighter legs
- Eliminates inner thighs rubbing against each other which causes discomfort
- Greater balance
- Better symmetry
- Improved overall body look
Thigh liposuction is popular mainly due to these reasons as it very effectively improves your overall body appearance.
Who is a Candidate for Thigh Liposuction?
Candidates for thigh liposuction are those who have a pocket of fat, extra bulge, are in pain from friction between the thighs or those who simply want better looking legs. The outer thighs, or front thigh curves can both be contoured much more pleasingly. It is mainly for those who could not solve this through a good diet and exercise. While it does not provide a perfect body image, it does lead to significant improvements. So after considering this and you feel that you may be a good candidate for thigh liposuction, contact us and set up a consultation.
The type of thigh liposuction we use is called tumescent suction assisted fine cannula liposuction or more simply Suction assisted Liposuction (SAL). This is the standard method of liposuction and typically yields the best and safest results. In this procedure, a small cannula is inserted through a small incision and is then attached to a vacuum device. The surgeon will then push and pull the cannula in a forwards and backwards motion, carefully through the fat layer which breaks up fat cells and then draws them out of the body by suction. Additionally, the tumescent technique means that general anesthetic is not needed and local anesthetic is used instead as well as the procedure minimizing blood loss during the procedure. The procedure typically takes around 2 hours depending on the patient.
Cost varies significantly depending on factors such as personal health, the difficulty of the procedure, if it is done in conjunction with other procedures as well as numerous other factors. So either give us a call or come in for a consultation and we will provide you with an estimate of how much the surgery will cost for you so that you can determine what cosmetic procedures you want.

Recovery and care guidelines
Every person’s recovery from thigh liposuction is different and recovery time depends on numerous factors such as how you care for yourself after the surgery, your health status, the success of the procedure, the type of procedure as well as numerous other factors. To assist you in your recovery, below you will find information about recovery and care guidelines after your procedure.
As you recover from your thigh liposuction procedure, a compression garment will cover the treatment area, once your procedure is completed. This is done to help control swelling and to compress the skin to your new body contours. This is worn for about 2 weeks after the procedure, so wearing clothing over this garment is recommended if you want to hide the garment.
After this, you will be given specific instructions on how to care for yourself after the procedure that may include:
- When to follow up with your cosmetic surgeon
- Medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and to reduce the potential for infection
- Specific concerns and issues to look for at the surgical site or in your general health
On top of this, make sure that you ask your cosmetic surgeon questions about what you can expect during your recovery period. Questions may include:
- What medication will I be given or prescribed after the procedure?
- Where will I be taken after my procedure is complete?
- Will I have dressings/bandages after the procedure?
- Are stitches removed? When?
- When can I resume normal activity and exercise?
- When do I return for follow-up care?
The swelling may take several months to fully dissipate. While it does this, your contours and your enhanced self-image should continue to develop. After thigh liposuction you should take a few days off before returning to your normal activities such as work. You can then return to exercising after about 3 weeks, however, this depends on the patient, so consult your surgeon before returning to exercise after your procedure.
